Nashville Bound Thoughts on High Flying WiFi...
At 28,000 ft, considering the density of the cloud cover below as we make our way south-west from New York to Nashvile, TN. This plane is equipped with the more and more frequently available wifi connection, which, in my opinion, should be free, but is currently running at about $10 per flight. There is no doubt that for a frequent traveler, especially one who is working, this is a great achievement. However, the cost is excessive for the actual value of what you recieve. Any type of uploading or hooking up to VPN seems to take twice as long as it would on the ground, and it is my opinion that airlines should either provide fast internet for a fee or provide free/slow internet. Even better, do as they do in airports - free/slow and fast/fee. This provides a solution that leaves all travelers with access to the interweb but allows us to choose at what level we need to be connected - and allows airlines to benefit from the fees. Another thought would be for members of the frequent flyer clubs to be able to access the web for free a certain number of times per month... All I know is that 5-10% of ticket cost for access to the web is pretty ridiculous. That being said, I am posting this from 28,000ft which is still pretty cool.
